Book Launch: Male and Female Saints — The Journey of Czech Anthropologists in the MENA Region
Join Czech anthropologists for a journey across the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Europe as they explore how the culture of saints and lived religious practices shape everyday life in Muslim societies.
Engage directly with the authors and learn an anthropologist’s perspective on how sanctity and sacred space continue to structure culture, memory, and society across diverse Muslim contexts.
Based on extensive fieldwork in Egypt, Bosnia, Sudan, and beyond, Male and Female Saints — The Journey of Czech Anthropologists in the MENA Region examines pilgrimage routes, saintly tombs, Sufi shrines, and local holy figures as social institutions that influence theology, community life, political stability, and processes of change.
The event will take the form of a conversation with guests from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, including the editor-in-chief Dr. Václava Tlili and the Head of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies, Dr. Veronika Sobotková.
